Hello, my name is Melvin Lee and I’m a freelance web developer based in Singapore. I started doing web development at the age of 14 (that’s about 6 years at this time of writing) starting with HTML, ActionScript 2.0 and PHP4. To me, the internet is my playground till now. I love exploring new web technologies and learning about them.
Academically, I studied for a diploma on Digital Media at Singapore Polytechnic for 3 years, and will graduate at the end of May 2009 (with merit). After my national service, I will be pursuing a degree on Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS). I had received 2 Director Rolls for meritorious academic performance, and was awarded the Silver medalist for WorldSkills Singapore 2009 in the web design category.
I’m a 70% programmer, 30% designer and I’m more of a minimalist and interface freak. I can be quite a perfectionist and could start raving over an extra pixel on the padding on an element (hehe). I love to listen to Coldplay and occasionally play games especially from Steam.
I’m currently working a lot with WordPress (my favourite CMS) and jQuery (as a normal user, not a plugin developer). My current tools are Photoshop, Notepad++, PHPEclipse/Aptana (for more complex PHP projects). Besides working with PHP, MySQL, XHTML and CSS, I also have worked with other web technologies and languages such as Java (J2ME / J2SE), ActionScript 2, ActionScript 3 (Flex) and C# (Windows Presentation Foundation / Silverlight).
